Chiswick woman and daughter's £64,000 benefit scam
A mother and daughter appeared in court on Friday accused of scamming nearly £64,000 in benefits.
Mum, Ann Wicks, from Bath Road in Chiswick, confessed to three counts but denied two others whilst daughter Michelle from Walton-on-Thames denied all charges.
Ann, 61 denied that she failed to notify the authorities that her medical condition had improved and continued to claim disability living allowance.
However she admitted to failing to notify the Department of Works and Pensions of a change in circumstances and one of false representation.
The court heard that she was claiming income support, pensions credit and housing and council tax benefit, despite having savings above the prescribed limit and owning property.
Her pleas were accepted by the prosecution.
But her daughter Michelle Wicks, 27, who stood next to her in the dock denied that it was a family affair and she was also diddling the authorities.
Michelle denied two allegations of false representation to claim income support and council tax benefit because she failed to state she jointly owned a flat in Philips Road, Surbiton with her mother.
The pair both claim the property solely belonged to Ann, of Bath Road, Chiswick.
Michelle will be tried at Guildford Crown Court on March 1 next year and her mother will be sentenced at the outcome of the trial.
