New plans for Turnham Green traffic
Turnham Green's new traffic scheme is to be changed following opposition to the plans.
Although the initial plans received a lot of support in May/June there was also significant opposition, meaning the Council is now considering undertaking a different scheme, which they claim is a simpler and cheaper design, that could be implemented more quickly.
.
Brochures detailing the new scheme, which includes proposals to change several bus routes and to add and remove traffic signals at various locations around the Green, have been delivered to more than 5,000 households and business around Turnham Green.
However a council spokesperson is quick to point out that: "The consultation is open to anyone, not just those close to the Green."
Cllr Peter Thompson, leader of the London borough of Hounslow said: "The area committee carefully considered a wide range of views in response to the first consultation.
"These views have been instrumental in shaping the scheme, and it's important they continue to do so.
"This second consultation has taken the comments from local people into account and I am confident that we are now close to a scheme that will meet with the approval of the great majority of local residents and bring real benefits to bus passengers.
"Decisions affecting local people need to be informed by their experiences so I encourage people to look at the revised scheme and let us know what they think."
The brochure is on the council website, www.hounslow.gov.uk/consultations, or can be requested on 020 8583 2270.
The consultation has been extended by one week, and now closes on September 19, with the Area committee making a final decision on October 14. If a decision is made building work would start before Christmas and should be completed over the winter.
