Chiswick Horticultural Society Show

Gardeners took their sweetest strawberries and their prettiest peonies along to the Chiswick Horticultural Society Autumn Show in the hope they would be judged 'best in Chiswick'.

Competitors made their way down to Duke's Meadows Community Association Hall on Sunday to enter their flowers, fruits, vegetables and home-made jams, breads and cakes into the competition.

Chiswick Horticultural Society member Philip Cole said: "It was an amazing day. Since we have had such appalling weather we were expecting a poor turn out, but it was better than ever."

"We saw a lot of new faces and there was a lot of people entering the competition. Bearing in mind the summer we've had, the standard of produce was remarkable."

Prizes were presented by Chiswick opera singer Sally Burgess, before the produce was put to auction.

Winners included Nigel Turner, who received The Henniker Cup for the highest total of points in the vegetable classes; Lorraine Taylor, who received The Johnson Cup for the highest total of points in the flower classes; and Daisy Ireland, who received The Rose Fuller Cup for the highest total of points in the children's classes.
