Matt George's Long Walk Home

matt-george.jpgA music teacher from Chiswick is gearing up to face the challenge of a lifetime as he walks 900 miles across the country - and we are following his every move on the website.

Drummer Matt George, 29, of Ernest Gardens, is more used to rock bands than rambling, but he has decided to don his walking shoes to march from John O' Groats in Scotland to Lands End in Cornwall in aid of charity.

Matt will be setting off on the gruelling walk, which is the longest distance between two points on the British mainland, on July 23 and hopes to raise £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.

And he will keep readers up-to-date with pictures and regular updates in this exclusive blog, Matt George's Long Walk Home.

"We all know someone who has been affected by cancer," he said. "My first experience was losing my granddad when I was very young. I can't think of a more worthwhile charity."

Matt currently lives in Chiswick but grew up in the small village of Sennen Cove, close to Lands End.

"For me it's a bit like a walk home, a very long walk," he said.

"I've never done anything like this before. I will be walking everyday for about six or seven weeks. Most people can't understand why I'm doing this, but I think it's a fantastic challenge. It's been an idea of mine for a long time, but now it's time to do it."

Musician Matt, who shares his time between working for Brent Council's music services and teaching drums from home, also plays in two rock bands, Francis Rodino and Ted Maul.

He will be taking the summer off to complete the challenge, which will take around six or seven weeks, before returning to work in September.

We'd like to hear from you.

Matt, where are you ? Just a guest at Fran's gig, how come ? Busy elsewhere ?

I have spare tickets for Mika's Sadler's Wells gig on June 8th and I would be happy to invite you there.
I know, not a jazz afficionado's cup of tea but wait till you have seen him onstage, he is breath taking !

You know where to email me...
