Cllr Fisher with residentOlder people living in a Chiswick Care Home have benefited from a range of improvements thanks to receiving a chunk of a £175,000 grant.

The department of Health grant was split across 16 care homes, with each home receiving a cut relative to how many residents lived there. They included Maryville Care Home in Brentford and St Mary's Convent and Nursing Home in Chiswick.

.

Homes received a range of modernisation work, including new furniture, garden furniture, sensory equipment, music systems and upgrades of rooms like kitchens, lounges and bathrooms.

Cllr Pamela Fisher Hounslow Council's lead member for adult services and health, visited eight of the homes to inspect the work and speak to the residents about the difference it has made.

She said: "As I have gone from home to home, I have been really impressed with the general standard. Staff and residents have told me that their grant has made a huge difference to their respective homes, and they have managed to make their money go a long way.

"These grants have to improve the general living environment for residents and in some way enhance their lives, and I felt like this has been achieved."

St Mary's Convent and Nursing home on Burlington Road, Chiswick, used its money to build a multi-functional wooden cabin, to be used as a base for a range of activities, games and exercise classes. Around it, a sensory garden boasting colourful flowers and wind chimes has also been introduced.

While Brentford's Maryville Care Home in The Butts, bought sensory equipment to go inside and outside the home, and computer equipment to help residents get on-line, learn some new skills and keep in touch with relatives via email
